Odd Anti-semitic joke

What was the point of the senior partner telling Jason Bateman's character that he "looked like a Jew"?
It made no sense, and other than showing what an A$$ the guy was, did nothing for the movie.
How does wearing a polo shirt with a blazer make someone look like any specific ethnic group or religion?

But you hit on it precisely - it was meant to show that the boss was a bigoted snob. It wasn't an anti-Semitic joke, it was a way to illustrate that character's character, and by implication, the character of the firm.

The joke fell flat, though. I assumed there'd be some kind of revisiting of that comment later on but there wasn't, and that was just a weird line of dialogue. It didn't even make sense!

That was the point! He was a self-important CEO who actually thinks he's funny becuase his paid yes-men usually laugh at all of his jokes. Gosh.

I bet plenty of those guys working in an environment like that are anti-Semitic. Those rich old republican types.

I think it was meant to show that Ryan Reynold's character was way more sensitive than Jason Bateman's character. IOW, that he wasn't just driven by the money and prestige whereas Bateman's character probably knew this about his boss, but since he was driven to make partner he, Jason, probably didn't care one way or the other that he might be working with bigots.

The joke made no sense and was not remotely funny. Or was that the point? Notice that Mitch (in Dave's body), one of the movie's good guys, makes anti-Asian (and anti-Persian) wisecracks that are actually funny. Nobody calls him a racist. The anti-Jewish comment is made by a jerk and he is instantly labelled an anti-Semite. Anti-Semitic joke = bad. Anti-Asian joke = funny.

First of all we dont have free speech to even talk about this anymore moderators routinely delete these types of messages behind the guise of "hate speech" more commonly dubbed THOUGHT CRIME which also fits the following case in point:

Its a familiar technique that the propaganda media of organized Jewry very subtly utilizes, injected to reinforce their societal NWO ideology that while it can be ok to discriminate asians, whites, "gays" etc its never ever tolerated to criticize Jews.

More importantly it serves to portray (and thus socially-engineer) all whites as being 'future potential Hitlers' so that everybody (non-Jews especially) should actively be on the lookout in combating "antisemitism"

Sadly, it has been disturbingly effective since Jews are viewed by many as being the victims of the worlds most terrible genocidal destruction similarly Israeli Jews are committing another more silent holocaust against the Palestinians not to mention undermining the sovereignty of free speech in America and throughout the entire world.

So you go ahead and allow them to erase my voice once again because what would i know right? im just a thought criminal...DoublePlusGood

Oh for f-ck sake...

Why don't you ask the Jewish director?

Does anyone think it is plausible that any real antisemitism is going to be inserted into a movie from Hollywood today without the effect being intended..clumsy or not.

Antisemitism unless part of the plot is usually inserted by the very people looking to find a reason to call someone anti Semitic

and that appears to be why in this case

just another goyim bogeyman

investigate!

I laughed, but I didn't quite get it either. Are Jews in America known for dressing semi-casually in formal business meetings or something?

"Why do you say this to me when you know I will kill you for it?"

reply

ha....terriffic!
