I like Roger Ebert, and will admit that his reviews are occasionally wrong or poorly written, but not as vindicatively as TexasPsycho26 apparently.
Anyway, take a look at his review for TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze. Not a very good movie sure, but certainly not awful. The most glaring error is the claim that the Turtles originated from an NES game...
TexasPsycho26 wrote the second post? I can't see since it was deleted.
shareHe likes waaaay more movies than he attacks, Psycho. The writer Theodore Sturgeon once said that 90% of everything in pop culture is crap, a figure which is probably true and certainly applies to American movies as much as anything.
In other words, Ebert is actually recommending MORE movies than he ought to, Psycho, so please give that some thought before jumping down the man's throat for the (relatively) small number of films he despises.
Wouldn't you agree that MOST movies that come out these days aren't particularly entertaining?

People are allowed to change their minds on movies. There are many movies I have changed my mind on over years. Some movies I didn't care for the first time I saw them but grew to like them over multiple viewings...and vice versa.
shareSee, this is where you and I differ, Psycho. There is nothing "elitist" about Roger Ebert. In fact, I kinda wish Ebert was a little bit more elitist in his thinking because the guy (and he's even admitted as much, Psycho) recommends a LOT of movies -- a hell of a lot -- far more than he OUGHT to be recommending. It's kind of ridiculous, really. And I'm sure you are nodding along with me on this since you yourself agreed that 90% of American movies are crap -- just like the rest of the world's.
So do me a favor, okay? Go back and look at Ebert's positive reviews AGAIN, Psycho. I'm not suggesting you look at ALL of them (that would take days!), just a few of them, and here is what you'll notice (you ready?):
That Roger Ebert recommends roughly HALF of the movies he sees! HALF OF THEM, PSYCHO!!! 90% of American movies are lousy (we both agreed on that, remember?) and yet this mofo is recommending we see HALF of them!!!
Does that make any sense to you? What kind of "elitist" does that?
Oh, and almost ALL of the ones he recommends are "popcorn" movies.
So again, do me a favor and check for yourself and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
Thanks, Psycho.

You're referring to someone who isn't even here (Pyscho), at least now. I remember him,...he was banned..thank god Roger Ebert is gone (just kidding!)
shareWho CARES what Roger Ebert says....he's a dude that had he been an OLD DOG would have been put to sleep by now...
The guy is a has been
See:Valley of the Dolls...if you need proof. WHAT A JOKE this poor pathetic man has become...he should have a shred of dignity and leave while he has a slight bit of dignity left.
Isn't he the same one that DOGGED Forrest Gump?
This is the same *TOOL* that gave A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (2001) a GREAT MOVIE review (and the movie didn't even make it's budget back). and was a FREAK SHOW of a movie.....
he gave forrest gump four stars actually

Wow, he found everything in The Change-Up so crude and vulgar. Makes me wonder what he thought of the movie MacGruber.
shareA movie as cynical as this one deserves all the whacking it gets. And why pick on Ebert? All the critics hate it. It's at 21% on rottentomatoes. The producers have not even ATTEMPTED to make a good movie. Why not hate on them?
"So she can one day become president and declare war on Germany like back when we were awesome."
No, they actually did make a good movie... a consistently funny movie... which would have been better but for the two or three unbelievably gross moments that they hinted at in the trailer and which turned people away.
THE CHANGE UP, minus all the heinous bits, equals one very good comedy.
But they blew it.

Because some may like it. . I'd rather hate on Scooby Doo an Fat Albert cartoons (why the HELL TOSE are popular baffles me.)
shareI doubt anyone was influenced to see or skip this in the theater based on reviews. I don't care if it was the movie of the year to Ebert, I would never of watched this in the theater. . But in this day and age of 5 different premium movie channels each with 10 stations and an on demand...I'll give this a go, and again nothing Ebert or any of these other nobodies says will change my mind.
shareRoger Ebert said it perfectly.
shareIf you love comedies, you CANNOT let movie critics influence what you want to watch. Most movie critics think anything funny in a movie is just vulgar or immature. Screw them!!!! Watch comedies and enjoy them for what they are - funny and silly stuff!!
shareHe was such a fun crusher.
