Incredible.

*possible spoilers*

I saw the movie at the London Film Festival on October 26th. It's unbelievably amazing. It's a complete mixture of all three of Harmony's previous movies - Gummo, Julien-Donkey Boy and Mister Lonely.

Gummo: the look.
Julien-Donkey Boy: the handheld camera.
Mister Lonely: the incredibly strange characters.

Trash Humpers takes elements of all of those movies and multiplies then by fifty. Thousand. It's such an incredible film, and not one part of it doesn't seem real. Even when characters are murdered it still seems incredibly real - thanks to the grainy VHS which gives off the perfect atmosphere from the start. It's no Gummo but it's definitely Harmony Korine doing what he does best... pointing and shooting. It's just a really beautiful film. Yeah, people shítting and humping trash is beautiful. Hahaha. The aforementioned "cinematography" was literally amazing. At many points AUTO TRACKING pops up on the screen and it makes you feel like you're actually watching someone's home video which adds to the surrealistic realism of it all... at one point the film stops, rewinds.... and then plays. It really is a truly gorgeous movie that I can't wait to watch again.

10/10.

It takes elements of sewage and multiplies them by fifty. Thousand. It's such an incredible film because it's somehow getting accepted into festivals despite being so God-awful. It never once feels real because the characters spend all their time screeching or reading (very low quality) poetry. The grainy VHS is interesting but the gimmick grows old fast and you can't really ever have respect for any of the film's cinematography because no thought went into it beyond "ooh, VHS looks kind of gritty, let's use that". Pointing and shooting sums the film up perfectly because I could honestly produce something of equal if not better quality if I picked up a camera and filmed myself running around the house, screaming for an hour and a half. Hell, my film would most likely be better because I'd at least try to make it entertaining or have a bit of depth. 'Auto Tracking' popping up on screen just helped over-kill the one-joke premise of the film that as I said earlier, gets old within 5 minutes of watching anyway. At one point, the film stops, rewinds... and then plays -just like in 'Funny Games' except without any of the depth that the director was going for there. And for the record, 'Funny Games' is terrible too. It's a terrible film that I hope is only seen by my enemies.
