Yeah, he's the best director working today, basically.

Get some Damon Packard, Adam Cooley, and Ryan Trecartin stuff too... they're the kings of no budget messed-up cinema at the moment.

pingas, Pink Flamingos for one is not at all an odd film in the way of Trash Humpers.

It's a very straight forward plot, and the people you're rooting for (Divine, etc) are the loving, supportive, family-oriented good guys. Take away the *beep* singing *beep* and the *beep* it would be family film. This is true with all of John Water's films.

If I wanted to point out other WTF movies in the vein of Trash Humpers I'd go with:

This film is most easily comparable to Even Dwarfs Started Small, by Werner Herzog and The Idiots by Lars Von Trier, a film that was also seemingly an influence on Mister Lonely, about the reckless abandon of a cultish group with no regard for social convention or normality. This film has absolutely nothing in common with David Lynch or japanese snuff porn. Pink Flamingos... maybe.

tripitacha, belated happy birthday and another since then. agreed with you on comparison to the herzog film, and i was wrong to compare with japanese snuff porn. still, no comparison with pink flamingos.
