Looks annoying twee

It could be a good film, but they're trying too hard to make this film look British!

Please explain how it is not British?

reply

I would. Except I didnt say that.

Why shouldn't they make it look British. It IS British...

reply

Its just looks like its....fake British. Like an non-Brit company made it.

Its probably just the trailer though, I've always found the people who make British comedy trailers make the film look hammy.

Have you read the book? Looks pretty close to the setting and characters...

Not sure I follow, it is British so seems reasonable to look like that.

Just seen this and did worry it would be a bit girly or twee but it is a sharp and biting comedy with great performances. Funniest film I have seen in ages.

Tamsin Greig is superb, a prize-winning performance.

I think this has flown over a few peoples head, but what I meant was they seem to be hamming up the quirky Britishness and the generic conventions of films like it to appeal to people.

But in the process (according to the reviews i've read) its kind of misleading and the films actually quite good.

I'll give it a watch wildsheep!

Just got back from a screening (which also featured a Q 'n A with Frears, the producer and Posy...): As for the film, its pretty much as the book is i.e. its about middle-class village life, mostly mocking of it, and still all the fuss about Tamara is over-shadowed by the other characters, reducing her to a rather ghost-like entity floating through the story. Its enjoyable, pretty to look at and quite fun, so on the whole would recommend it.
