Style/Whimsy over Substance/Logic
The movie was really well shot, but good lord was the story stupid and illogical.
They live in this tiny village where everyone knows everyone. Gary Oldman comes and explains that warewolves can't enter churches and that silver will kill them.
I can understand the first attack happening, you still have a large portion of the population thinking that the warewolf is dead so even if you try to get everyone into the church you're going to have a large chunk of villagers who are going to refuse.
However... after the first attack what does Gary Oldman do? He sends everyone back to their houses for inspections??!?
Really?
You have a tiny village where everyone can fit into the church (which the wolf can't enter). Why in the world wouldn't you just gather everyone at the church an hour before sunset and do a head count? Everyone knows everyone! You figure out who isn't present and the next day you gather those people and go ahead and imprison them (or better yet, just cut them with silver so that when they transform they die, or have them eat something that has some silver flakes in it, transform and boom they die).
I guess it's just more whimsical and romantic to have the lovers be from a small village though... even though it completely defies logic for the events to play out the way they did if that were the case.
