Excellent release date! Other Christmas Day release dates included LES MISERABLES, INTO THE WOODS, and CHICAGO (release date of Dec 27, 2002)! They were not only crowd-pleasers but were well-received, critically-speaking.
It seems that Fox is giving its full studio support to the film musical project -- more than a year to complete production/post-production/promotion and a release date that targets the holiday movie-going crowd and the deadline for qualifying for film awards!
