How woke is this?
Looks interesting, but I want to know how woke it is first
shareNo idea, I watched about 80% of it and absolutely nothing happened

shareI believe the site Common Sense Media would be more suited to inform you.
shareI know this has become a bit of a joke question at this point meant to instigate, but the film is only "woke" in the sense that it clearly focuses way too much on the black cook woman at times, really trying hard to make us sympathize with her losing her son and being strong despite being disrespected and looked down on by some of the rich boys and yadda yadda yadda.
The issue of racism is never addressed directly, nor is it a focal point of the film in any way, but I felt she got way more screen time than she deserved or likely would have gotten even 10 years ago. The focus on her character felt very forced, meant more to check a box than provide any legitimate insight, and her storyline was mostly sappy and melodramatic and uninteresting as a result. The fact that she's approximately the size of a mini-bus is also inexplicably never mentioned, with several of the older male characters even regarding her as "attractive," which she most certainly is not.
Other than that, not really that woke. Maybe also Giamatti being so damn progressive with his acceptance of black people given the time period, but whatever. I was more annoyed it went down uninteresting roads with the black woman rather than saying or doing anything genuinely interesting or authentic with her.
