Would you rather be Tech 49 or Tech 52?

Tech 49 gets to see it all unravel, gets to live and be the hero, though so many of him existed it's really kind of like calling it even in the history books from then on I suppose. 49 would become a sort of saviors number, probably even form a religion after people lose the ability to replicate the technology they had. After 300 years or less he would be blurred in history like a Prophet and 49 would be a sacred number.

The Lays of Ancient Rome quote was perfect. Movie had flaws but I liked it a lot. Anyway, It's a clear choice for me I'd take the place of Tech 52 and live with the girl if it was possible, he was engineered perfectly, probably wont get cancer or sick, but then we can argue sci-fi and why hadn't the Tet built in kill switches or more fail safe scans that even we can duplicate today, but hey it's a movie. For the sake of the discussion though, I'd take the 30-40 years or whatever Tech 52 gets, I mean he's going to learn all about the history and be jealous of 49 perhaps but living 49's dream would be even better than being the hero IMO.

Although... Being in 49's position I would have no problem doing what he did with a smile on my face. It's a toss up really but if I got to choose somehow, you know theoretically I'd rather be 52, what about you?

Tech 49 is dead, Tech 52 gets to bang Olga Kurylenko in a lake house for the rest of his life. What do you think?

Are you not entertained?!

It's a pretty cool way to go though. Tech 52 might have some genetic abnormalities built in by the Tet, or he could be perfect, built to live long and well.

If 52 is healthy, well and "normal" it's no doubt I'd rather be him. Still, you might run into sects of survivors who are going to try and kill you since well, your clones have been killing them for 'about 60 years'. And banging the same girl gets boring no matter how hot she is, most guys know that. After living as what he thought was a super-advanced species he goes back to the beginning it would be very depressing.

Best case scenario he lives a boring life gets some kids and maybe finds something to do, scavenge, hunt? They would probably just turn back into troglodytes in a generation or two without the ability to manufacture new technology and the lack of man power. 49 got to live a pretty cool life right up until the end, all exciting. 52 would get bored, at least I would, without his flyer, motorcycle and technology? Who knows maybe the others could salvage some of that stuff from the stations, I'd still pick 52 with all that said and for your reason as well..

Not to be too esoteric about it (I'd vote for 52) but the point of the movie is that 52 actually BECAME Jack whatever his name was. The 'soul' of Jack was basically reincarnated in 49 then 52. 49 and 52 saw Julia and that 'cemented' (or at least was the catalyst for) the transformation.

Too bad there were all but a few pages of this forum deleted ... I wrote up what I hope was a coherent explanation of all that, but alas ...

All that plain text HTML taking up masses on the servers probably lol. Really though... I've seen 15+ year old threads. I wonder why they delete some whole movie forums.

Yeah, 52 has the good life. No more cool electronic flying helicopter thing though. Every pilot would miss that, then the possibility of things starting out the wrong way, people quickly devolving over generations instead of evolving, since evolution would be impossible without the industrialization of the modern era.... For example if I want to build a computer as I sometimes do, or a motorcycle engine and I need a video card, memory stick, connecting rod, Bang.. its right there for me to order at an affordable price, imagine trying to actually build that stuff without all the factories and equipment. Without being able to look up anything you want if you have a question by taking your phone out of your pocket. Devolution would be inevitable, well, I guess you could still call it evolution, just evolving to a crappy environment, so we would dumb down again, get a little bit primitive, and then slowly build back up. I think, but who knows.

49!

52 lived in the radiation zone... he's gonna die soon.

No, my post is not meant to be taken seriously. Yes, I'm aware the radiation was fake.

reply

I think the whole "radiation" zone was a lie so they would kept the clones far from each other.

So... you didn't read my post where I said:

"No, my post is not meant to be taken seriously. Yes, I'm aware the radiation was fake."

haha, I can't tell if response was serious or not? It's like people read the first line then just can't help themselves to race to reply a correction to your 'ignorance' lol... Ahh.. well, it's sad in a funny/wtf kinda way...

What i found strange about the whole plot?

Tech 49 knocks 52 unconscious and switches jackets. Thus, the guy on the ground is wearing Tech 49's jacket. The only way that Tech 49 (while wearing 52's jacket), can fly his ship, is to wear that jacket.

Well, the Jacket gets blown up with Tech 49 wearing it.

Then all of a sudden Tech 52 is wearing it again. Though he has absolutely no access to a new jacket, no communication with Vika and has spent the rest of this time wandering looking for an Oasis.

Not necessarily true.

After Vika52 encountered Jack49 when he went to get a medical kit, extensive time elapsed. She would have made inquiries to Tet. Tet, in turn, would have or might have dispatched another flyer to Zone 52. Jack reunites with Vika, and returns to duty as a team; until Tet explodes. Of course, the two would have had an interesting 'pillow talk'. But the scene wouldn't have advanced the main story any.

Tech #52's life rebuilding human society probably won't be all wine and roses. Being a student of history, petty wars, struggles for power and the male need for dominance will probably soon happen after the glow of victory over the TET fades.

A dark version of human history would include a rabid faction that would fear Tech's (assuming many survive around the world), and would be hunted down and killed as false rumors of a second TET emerge that were in collusion with the Tech #"s
