That's a very difficult one to answer. I would say I loved Oblivion for the story, and the amazing visuals. Oblivion also had an amazing score to it. I loved Edge of Tomorrow for the action, the relationship between the main characters, the character development and uniqueness of using the concept of live, die, repeat.

Oblivion is more realistic. Thats why I liked it more.

I consider EOT a more action/fantasy, and oblivion more science fiction. Oblivion was more plausible, and therefore a better science fiction film, imo. Resetting time is a lot larger of a stretch of reality, than clones and AI from outer space. Oblivion was closer to science fiction in that all of it was explainable and plausible. Edge of Tomorrow's idea of resetting time is fantasy more than science fiction. But there are science fiction elements in Edge of Tomorrow.

+1 for Oblivion. Most science fiction stories requires a major suspension of disbelief; it was far easier to do so with Oblivion's plot that EoT.

The movie has a plot hole?!?

Completely different films. Futile comparison.

I liked EOT for the comic moments.

Oblivion.

EOT is "soft sci-fi".

reply

Edge of Tomorrow is the better movie. Just by a hair though. See both. Why not?

reply

It's a really difficult one for me as I love both movies. I probably would have Oblivion just edge it for me even though I think EoT is probably the slightly superior film . . . the Oblivion soundtrack and cinematography just blows me away every time.

reply

I know. It is a beautiful movie.

Edge of Tomorrow has a better story, Oblivion better visuals and filmmaking and is more immersive (well when you're not thinking "WTF" about the plot that is).

Funny enough EOT was done in 3D but the 3D was pretty weak and I think watching Oblivion was more immersive than watching EOT in 3D.

I'd pick which one to watch based on my mood...

If I wanted to watch an action flick, definitely EOT. If I wanted a more calm and let-me-escape-reality type of experience, Oblivion.

watching oblivion right now and saw edge of tomorrow for the first time last night. the repeating element of EOT quickly grows tiresome. oblivion is more creative.

Edge of tomorrow hooked me from the start, the time loop was well executed, and Tom Cruise played the journey from frightened reporter/soldier to seasoned veteran quite well,

Oblivion, while a good film, I did not enjoy as much the first time round, although watching subsequently I found it more enjoyable.

My only complaint is the films are too 'Hollywood' in some areas...
