Didn't she only meet him twice before they slept together? (sleeping with him the 2nd time)
I feel like he took getting rejected by her pretty hard for only meeting twice, no?
Not that it makes it a whole lot better, but it was actually three times. The first time when he pulled her over. The second time was at the convenience store and they just talked all night until he let her use the radar detector in the morning. The third time was when she asked him out and they hung out in a bar for a while, that's when they went back and had sex.
He did overdo the rejection act a bit and was pretty rough on her, considering how much she tried to apologize. That said, I think they had kind of a "love(attraction) at first sight" going on which made the feelings, at least for him, stronger than random dating rejections.
I do wish they'd indicated what Helen did or said to him to make him come around by the evening of the wedding, considering it was just earlier that day when he blew Annie off yet again (when Helen witnessed them talking after looking for Lillian.)
