Hated the cop

I found the cop so annoying. I can't tell if it was just bad casting or the way it was written. It didn't feel like Annie actually liked him at all. Having that whole romance between them was an uneccessary piece of the movie, in my opinion. What does everyone else think?

reply

I didn't have a problem with him. It was actually kind of refreshing to see a non-stereotypical cop.

The romance between them was necessary. She needed to give up on the bad boy (Jon Hamm) and be with someone who actually liked her and would treat her well (the cop).

reply

No chemistry and the writing was off.

reply

Bad casting if there ever was one. The guy was just so....dweeby. I can't imagine him being able to strike believable romantic chemistry with anyone. I started skipping all their scenes together.

reply

yep, gotta agree, no chemistry, weak link of the film (along with rebel wilson)

reply

I loved him. The whole ponit was he was an ordinary guy, down to earth, sweet, and a good guy open to seeing the value in Annie, everything John Hamm was not.

They had zero chemistry and I found him annoying. He's the only part of this movie that I don't like tbh.

reply

Agree! He was obnoxious as all get out, and he was there solely to glamorize law enforcement goons, like most every movie and TV series in Hollywood does nowadays. This wasn't a movie, this was propaganda! And dumb Kristen runs off with the cop at the end, actually glad to be arrested by him! Cringeworthy!!!

reply

Lol, she wasn't arrested by him!

Helen called him to give her a ride home from the wedding, as a gesture to get them to kiss and makeup. Which they did.

Then he receives a call on his radio. He has to leave but Annie has to "ride along".

The remarks he made about a warrant for her arrest was only a joke in reference to the list of things she did to get his attention when looking for his help with the missing bride. He wasn't really going to arrest her for all that stuff.

I completely disagree. Chris O'Dowd was charming, funny and handsome, as has been said a complete antidote to Jon Hamm's douchebag.

reply

I think you meant to reply to the OP but replied to me instead no worries. I agree with you, Chris O'Dowd's cop was charming and a very good antidote character to John Hamm's shallow player. I loved officer Rhodes!

reply

I agree 100%. This would have been a perfect movie had it not been for that character (and actor). Disgusting person. Unforgiving, boring, nerdy. She could do so much better. He had no social skills what soever. Every time I watch the movie I skip right past those scenes. You don't need them, in fact, for the movie to work. The filmmakers should have left him on the cutting room floor.

As much as I like Chris O'Dowd in comedy roles, he was meh in this one. I don't see him as a love interest.

Also in Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children he was off, there he played a serious father role and was trying to pull an american accent.
Maybe he wasn't bad there, probably it is just that I'm used to see him goofy with an irish accent.

Loved him in the IT Crowd though, great show and his role was really funny.
