Bridget Jones' Cruelty

(MINOR SPOILERS..no spoiler on who the daddy is)

Lightweight entertainment though Bridget Jones Baby may be(and a badly-needed career comeback for Renee Zellwegger), once the plot fully revealed itself, I felt uncomfortable with what the character was doing.

That she had one-night stand sex with two men closely enough in time that the father of her child could not be rightfully "guessed," I understood. (And I thought it was funny how OB/GYN Emma Thompson figured out immediately that there were two possible dads, as well.)

But we eventually learned that Bridget was "knowingly if unconsciously" using defective condoms for both trysts, evidently in hopes of getting pregnant.

So basically, Bridget was figuring whichever man might father her a child, great. And once she knew she was pregnant, she effectively let each man know that he might NOT be the father.

That's cruelty, to my mind. And the idea of having sex with multiple men in search of a baby(at the risky age of 43) seems a bit selfish.

But...human. Human emotion, fraility and need trump manners.

Still, uncomfortable to watch. One of those possible two fathers is made a chump of.
