'Ohhh NOOOO!' (Big time spoilers!!!!)

So when they revealed Mark as the groom at the end of the aisle, the audience in my theatre gave a giant "ohhh NOOOOOO!!!"

Seems they were quite taken with Jack McDreamy. Other than his yurt and anti-epidural nonsense, he's much more appealing than Mark Darcy!!

reply

Surely you jest! Jack looked greasy and grubby, whereas Mark was wonderful, just as he is šŸ˜ Everyone in the cinema when I saw it cheered at the end - I would have been completely pissed off if Bridget had chosen Jack.

reply

Mark Darcy forever!!! ??

reply

yesyesyes!

reply

I thought Mark died in this installment? If he lives, I'll watch the damn film.

reply

Mark died in the third novel "Mad About the Boy", this story actually takes place BEFORE the book.

reply

Was just about to start reading the books, spoilers warning would have been good here. My heart just sank :(

reply

It happens almost at the start of the book. Doubt they'll make it into a film with neither firth nor Huge in it

reply

Someone shouted out yes during our showing

reply

There were a lot of clappers in my screening. There was clapping when Darcy was revealed as the groom.

reply

I clapped myself.
Other than that, Patrick is my favorite.

Jack turned out to be a nice fellow. But the difference between him and Mark, and it's a big one in my opinion, is how each of them answered her question... what if it's not yours?

I noticed this too, and I actually thought it was a bit of a plot hole. Since it seemed to me that Jack was onboard from the beginning even though he did not know whether the baby would be his, and then he would suddenly say that it "changes things" if the baby is not his???? He knew all along that it was 50% chance and still he was painting the baby's room and asking Bridget to move in! When Mark just left when he thought there was less chance for the baby to be his, and only came to his senses in the end.

Wait! Does this also mean putting out doesn't get you love?

reply

Mark in the books is lovely, but Mark in the movies is a dull, humorless guy with zero charm. He only smiles once in the whole movies, for god's sake.

reply

I thought Firth went a little too heavy on the "dour and repressed" thing. They had mad chemistry in the first film, and to some degree in this one, but I could not help thinking that the Jack character was in many ways a better fit for her.

I was prepared for Mark to be the one, though. It's based on P&P, which means she must always end up with Darcy.

reply

I was disappointed but it was predictable that she would choose Mark. Sadly ...

reply

I had the same reaction when I watched it just now.
