It makes no sense.
When handing the baby back to Mark, Jack said to Mark something like "I have no idea what to do with him". If he was the godfather he probably would have hanged out with the baby a bit more? Also Bridget promised to Tom that he would be the godfather.
If he wasn't the godfather, it would still be okay for him to be at the wedding. But why in the front with the baby? Shouldn't it be the baby's grandmother or someone else close to him to hold him? Someone you is used to babies and who the baby knows?
The only logical explanation is that the writers wanted the audience to be mislead. And that's a terrible reason to do something so stupid.
Wait! Does this also mean putting out doesn't get you love?
