Bridget Jones Baby Too British and European for American audiences

This is a European film it is based in England, although the main star Renee Zellwegger is American. Renee filmed at ITV studios I believe in London as well some scenes. The humour is British, the style is European. I think this movie just went over the head of American audiences. The movie has NOTHING to do with the USA so I think that is why Americans were not really into the movie.

Plus it seems that they just don't care because the actors aren't your typical American "hot" gal and guy (aside from Patrick Dempsey, but he doesn't even end up with the girl ).

The story is also about the underdog winning, which Americans don't seem to be very fond of.

reply

Lol....troll much? Shall we start naming underdog movies that Americans didn't "like much"

Oh....just two off the top of my head....
Rocky
The Karate Kid.

Gee, I wonder whenever happened to that Sylvestor Stallone guy...

All typos are hereby blamed on my iPad.

reply

Yeah they like "winners" like Trump.

maybe thats why i thought it was so great :) just back from seeing it, best movie i've seen in ages, and a cast that could actually act speaking lines from a genuinly funny /touching story. great stuff :)

reply

Then how do you explain the previous 2 movies being hits?

reply

I know I'm just one in a population of hundreds of millions, but I'm American and I really enjoyed this film. It was leagues better than the second film, and I found it so nice to see all these characters again after all these years. I love British humor!

reply

Yeah, I'm American and I really enjoyed it. And I agree it was much better than the second film, too. I found Bridget pretty annoying in that one and almost thought Mark deserved better.

I don't know why anyone would say that this film is too British for Americans to like, or that the actors aren't hot enough. Look how popular Benedict Cumberbatch is here. He's not conventionally "hot", and personally I don't find him attractive, but loads of American women feel differently. He's a sex symbol. Look at the success of films like The King's Speech. You can't get more British than that.

If this movie wasn't successful at the American box office, that's not because it's too British. Lots of very "American" movies fail at the box office too. It's a risky business and some projects just don't catch fire.

reply

I'm American and I very much enjoyed it. Where do you get off thinking all Americans like the same things?

reply

Right? It's impossible for 322 million people to all think the same way.

Eh, I'm no hero. I just like to hit people on the head

reply

Actually it's 350m-ish.

Don't forget all the 30m illegals LOL

Are you an SJW ? If so, please kill yourself immediately! Thanks

What a provincial hick thing to say! Is your world really that small? British humor is smarter than American humor. Maybe that's why you don't get it. I would bet a million that you are a Trump lover.

reply

Oh, and British actors are generally better at their craft. They are real actors, not boob-pumped trouser-stuffed fantasy idols. British and European movies are about people who seem real and human. That is why actresses like Isabella Huppert and Liv Ullman have gone on acting well into their 60s, whereas American actresses are put out to pasture at the first wrinkle because they no longer look like insipid dolls. I just can't believe how narrow and shallow your world view is.
