Fitzwilliam?

Have we always known Mark's middle name is Fitzwilliam?

When they were exchanging vows, I already knew that it would be Fitzwilliam after the character he's based on. Nice touch

But then I thought perhaps I'd already guessed because we'd heard it before. Have we?

reply

I don't think so. I think this movie is the first time we heard his, Bridget's and Daniel's (Vivian?!) middle names.

reply

Vivian was my father's name, but, it's amusing to think of it as Daniel's middle name

I loved that little touch of Fitzwilliam being his middle name

reply

in the book she doesn't have one. she wonders why that is when jude gets married

reply

Vivian is common as a male name in the British Isles.

reply

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks!

reply

Wow, that's dumb lol.

I love the way that Bridget jones diary is like a modern day pride and prejudice. Well perhaps not the new film lol, but the first one at least where. I read pride and prejudice after reading Bridget jones and loved all the similarities.

Helen Fielding loved the 1995 Pride & Prejudice mini-series (starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy) so much she wrote the Bridget Jones series as a modern day P&P. What was so cool is that she got Colin Firth to play the Mark Darcy role in all 3 movies. In P&P, Mr. Darcy's first name is Fitzwilliam and they used that as his middle name in this BJB movie.😉

It's what annoyed me recently as one of the funniest parts of the book is when she interviews Colin Firth about Mr darcy and how wet he got.....repeatedly lol.
It's also funny that they chose to make Bridget chubby as from the 1st book she was only about 9 stone. It was a joke about women's insecurities with their bodies

reply

What does 9 stone equate in terms of size?

reply

A stone is 14 lbs. Apparently, she was "chubby" at 126 lbs. :(

reply

Ridiculous. She was never chubby. They just put her in clothes that were a little too tight, or dumpy, to make her look that way. It was so annoying.

The first Bridget Jones did a deleted scene where Bridget Jones the journalist interviews Colin Firth. It wasn't as funny as the book, but nothing in the Bridget Jones books were as funny in the movie.

I also love the pride and prejudice tv series with Colin Firth. I'm very glad he actually plays Mark in the Bridget jones films x
