I really adore the first two movies. This one was okay,but part of the magic was how funny the movies were. This one was mostly drama and very few funny parts. I was disappointed in that aspect. Thoughts?
shareI thought it was very un-funny. More of an embarrassment watching 43-year-old woman pratfall and lie her way through a situation that had to be made artificial at every level to propel the story.

shareI am a hetero guy and enjoyed the first two movies. I really enjoy witty dialogue and I have always thought Renee was uniquely cute and I don't care about female movie stars. But, I love her and the older she gets the more cute, to me.
So, I actually wanted to see this film and took my SO along for the ride. She was mildly freaked out, but the way.
Anyway, I thought the first half of this movie was awesome! The dialogue was very witty and had me laughing. However, I knew nothing about the plot at all, and found the second part of the movie to be very sad.
I actually cried, and I'm a 240 lbs bodybuilder.
I cried because I have had a tough life regarding women and family. I have only dated career type women and none wanted kids. My SO cannot have kids, and I'm around the age of the characters. So, if I was one of those guys, found an awesome girl like Bridget, who I would love in real life, and she was suddenly having my baby, I would be so happy it would be mind blowing!!
However, if another guy was there, and it could be his baby, and Bridget might love him or me, or take MY BABY because she loved him more, I would go insane. Waiting nine months through all of THAT...I don't even know what would happen.
In real life, I work in psychology and am more like Mark. I'm an outgoing and friendly guy, but I'm also very smart and like Darcy a bit, so I identified with both characters. Anyway, it made me cry off and on thinking how tough the situation would really be.
By the time I got out of the movie I was exhausted! I laughed at the first half but felt like I was watching a "Relationship Horror Movie" during the second.
I would have preferred a different plot of some other way to handle it.
Does weight and status as a bodybuilder somehow impede the ability to cry? And your SO was mildly freaked out that you wanted to go to a movie? You work in psychology? Cognitive dissonance must be your middle name. You're also so hetero.
The movie was 1 of 1000000 recycled hollywood rom-com plots without insight, innovation, authenticity or fervor. Another piece of trash for the massive pile of cash-ins that are the bulk of what is produced.

In a filmed interview on youtube, Hugh Grant did not come for this film as he proof read the scripts and came to conclusion that although it had some funny parts, he could not sign to the film as it was incomplete.
Hugh Grant was right, although he is a missed character, a few weak jokes does make the film.
Its a Cash Cow as its called in business, so the decision is to make a profit,cut the film for a low cost, find a third character and squeeze out the last drops of change out of final film with selling it as a full Bridget Jones film.
They know they could not make another after this, they just sink the boat and if everyone gets as much money then they wrap it all up.
Disappointing, and I was distracted by Renee's new face, which doesn't seem as flexible as it was.

The scene where her two love interest are taking turns carrying her to the hospital and in the end put her over the front desk was hilarious. I'm sorry, I totally disagree with you. shareI liked the first one the most, but to me this was better and funnier than the second. The second seems a little pointless in retrospect and I thought Bridget was actually kind of unlikable in it. My only quibble with her in this one is the refusal to get an amnio, but that's really just a silly plot conceit anyway. I really liked Dempsey and his character and enjoyed the sparring between the two men. Also the secondary characters, like her new BFF and the obnoxious new boss. And Emma Thompson, of course.
One reason the first is my favorite? Hugh Grant. He was SO good at playing the naughty cad. I can never forget that one Bridget/Daniel exchange about Darcy, when she tells him "apparently when we were little I used to swim naked in his paddling pool" and Daniel says "I bet you did, you dirty little bìtch."
It missed the numerous funny entries to her diary, and some of her silly thoughts out loud. Her face wasn't animated as before.
