It might do that but then, for every thug who imitates it, there'll be someone else who resolves to treat others with respect. I find it ironic that most of the violence generated by the film Clockwork Orange was from the people who believed that they were on the side of law and order. Kubrick withdrew the film because of death threats from such upholders of decency.
I'm visiting the USA at present and have thought about crime. It's strange that gangs are dying out in New York whereas they seem to be growing in England (especially London). I feel safer in Harlem than in Hackney, which no one would have said 30 years ago. I don't understand crime.
