A pretty mediocre show without the incredible Falk

He alone makes this show essential TV.

reply

some of the murders were very well thought out.

reply

Yes, he's essential, but if the story is complete crap, even he can't save it (as evidenced by some of the episodes).

You'd be crazy to buy this boxset in the UK, as it's on ITV at the weekends ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

reply

Not in the UK but if I was I'd still buy it because I want to watch the episode I feel like watching vs what they feel like showing, and without commercials.

reply

AMEN.I ONLY WATCH SHOWS IN ORDER FROM BEGINNING TO END AS WELL.

"You'd be crazy to buy this boxset"

I thought you were going to continue along the lines "because you can download it for free, if you know how".

In any case, owning a TV show has SO many benefits over being at the mercy of some PROGRAMMING CORPORATION (they try to program you, they are even blatant and open about it) and its transmissions of any kind, it boggles my mind as to HOW there can be people that say things as crazy as you did.

Let me list just _SOME_ of those benefits of watching something you actually have, from your own device, whether it's a PC and a hard drive, or something else:

- You decide WHEN you watch it with 100% flexibility to change your mind
- You decide if and when you want to pause it or stop watching
- You decide how many episodes at a time you watch
- You can pause and continue at ANY time, with ANY kind of interval you wish. Pause it today, continue it a week or a month later.
- You can fast forward and rewind - to use obsolete terminology - perfectly, you can decide the EXACT point of the show you want to watch, and watch ANY part of the show again as many times as you want at your own leisure and your own schedule, your own time, and so on
- You don't HAVE to wade through anything you don't want to - you can skip boring parts, for example
- You aren't at the mercy of someone else at ANY point - no one can force you to watch some stupid ad, listen to some stupid narration about other programs, squeeze the endscroller so you can't even the read the names because the network wants to advertise something else WHILE narrating some crap on top of the ending music, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH!

The people that want to ruin people's life and convenience and cause unnecessary grief, irritation and anger, always try to IMPOSE all kinds of crap to you - if you buy a new TV, it comes with INBUILT ads! If you try to get a Blu-Ray of something, it forces you to watch trailer of the NEXT season so it will SPOIL the show before you watch it!

So they're definitely FIGHTING this convenience, so in my opinion, anyone that watches 'programming' instead of just 'episodes' is the CRAZY one, as they voluntarily SUBJECT THEMSELVES to the corporate insanity and hostility that doesn't care if you'd rather watch Peter Falk cleverly expose a murderer's cover story and lies than be irritated by some extremely annoying and loud advertisement of things you don't care about.

Now, I ask you - WHO is the crazy one again?

reply

People made some good points here.

Peter Falk is indeed a miracle that makes this show what it is - and it is brilliant - but even he can't salvage total crap, as some episodes prove. I just CAN'T put myself through watching some of the crap episodes, even though the excellent Peter Falk is in them, doing his best.

So he IS essential, of course, but the story and other elements need to gel as well, otherwise even his charisma and charms aren't enough.
