Leaving ME-TV at end of year?

ME-TV has been running it 5 days per week in the ME-TV Mystery Movie overnight slot. Airings of the other Mystery Movies, like McCloud and McMillan have pretty much stopped (previously, they were rotating those three, plus Perry Mason, Banacek, and the 90-minute Quincys).

I wonder if ME is running it a lot because they are losing it at the end of the year. In the past, some other NBC/Universal-owned series like Adam-12 and Dragnet have moved to the NBC/Universal-owned COZI TV. I think the same is about to happen for Emergency, and I wonder if Columbo is moving too.

I have to say, those old 90-min episodes from the 70s are really, really good. Much better than the padded two hour episodes.

I never knew such a thing existed. Now I see it's on at 3am so it's not like I would be watching it. I have COZI-TV so I can still watch it. I hope they keep it on TV at a time I can watch.

reply

Wow, they have these amazing things called DVRs now. Look into one.

reply

Stop being condescending. Not everyone can afford cable or satellite or wants the hassle of having it (I don't), so not everyone uses DVRs.

50 Is The New Cutoff Age.

reply

Seriously.

What's funny is that I do have a DVR, but that has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Columbo is moving stations. Some people are just jerks.

BTW, I found out that Columbo IS going to COZI in 2017, along with Emergency and The Rockford Files.

I DVR it every night bc it's on so late. I see Emergency is going away but they also have been running ads telling us this for weeks. I would hope they would let us know about Columbo if they took it off. They have some Columbo commercials on so its not like they just have it on and don't care if anyone watches it. i haven't seen some of the newer Columbo's on yet, but it could be I started watching it when it started from the earlier episodes. I didn't realize it was on at 2 am till one morning I couldn't sleep a couple of months ago.

I'll miss Columbo on MeTV but I have the series on DVD so it doesn't really matter. As for new programming, I really wish they would show Ellery Queen with the late great Jim Hutton!

reply

As it turns out, the 1970s episodes are moving from ME-TV to Cozi. However, ME-TV will start showing the 80s/90s episodes on Sunday evenings starting in January.

reply

Hell yeah! I saw the commercial for that earlier. Good to see Columbo will still be on MeTV, if only on Sunday nights. Now if they would only get rid of Hogan's Heroes...

reply

I saw the commercial last night. Strange a TV station that markets itself as the 50s-70s station will start showing episodes from the 80s and later. It's also strange another station will be airing the 70s episodes.

reply

I gave up wondering about MeTV's programming the moment they started airing Saved By The Bell!

reply

Perhaps they've moved forward from their targeted demographic or are trying to expand it.

reply

They don't market themselves as a station targeted to a certain decade. And at some point, they do need to start expanding forward, as the demographic who remembers the older shows dies off. They are now showing Mama's Family from the 80s, and have been showing Cheers for years.

As for the Columbo split: there have always been two syndication packages - one that contains the original 70s episodes, and the other that contains the episodes from the revival.
