The Ending

I really liked this movie up until the bowling alley scene at the end, I really think they could have done better than that. I mean they spend the whole movie showing how Dale is a really nice guy, then at the end when the old guy knocks the woman out and drags her away he just doesn't care because he's got the girl so that's all that matters. So... he's NOT really such a great guy? I'm not sure what they were going for here, but I can think of several alternate endings that would have been better than what we got.

I agree. I thought it went against the whole "hillbilly's are just people too" vibe. At the end the old guy is told to just "be himself" and he knocks the girl out and caries her off, just like the college kids would expect him too. Unnecessary and dissapointing.

Glad that you agree, I guess sometimes it's hard to think of a good ending, but they could have done something that fits the tone better. Like having Chad somehow survive and then show up at the bowling alley yelling "Get away from her, Hillbilly scum!" and then Dale says "Aww for f###'s sake... Come on!" then it ends.
Maybe not exactly like that, but at least that would be better than what they came up with

agree, in fact i'd go even further and say the last 15 minutes or so were not as high quality as the rest of the movie

Interesting. I remember the ending differently: a big misunderstanding, girl's friends run away and the man (with another patron) is just trying to help her. Then heroes see that it's the same situation all over, deliberate helping and then decide "nah, we had enough murders for the day!" Plus, there's another level of hilarity in that the new Romeo is in his seventies and severely short on teeth.

Now, I'm not saying this is exactly what happened, but this is the impression I got.
