What is the connection with 'The Evil Dead'?

It looks so similar, how is it connected?

Both are horror/comedies set in a cabin in the woods. That's about it though, story-wise they're quite different.

Well Joss Weadon directed Cabin in the Woods, and Alan worked with Joss on Firefly. They are still close friends so perhaps he was inspired by Joss.
