The 2 surgeons' motivation made little sense

One is an american deserter (Paul Rudd) seeking to leave Germany with fake papers for him and his daughter. He doesn't want to get caught, but he drives what looks like a Nolan Batmobile with an american flag painted all over it and never fails to make a scene whenever he's in public.

He's the loving father of a 8-9 years old girl for whom he killed someone, but his very best friend is obviously attracted to very young women and girls. He knows this and he barely seems to care.

This man loves Paul Rudd so much that he's willing to surgically install vocal chords on the man who killed him so he can apologize, but he never bothered to try and save his dying friend. He even made sure he suffered as much as possible.

Yeah, I didn't understand the need for him to get an apology. He didn't save his friend because he was planning to molest the kid. When he moved the LCD screen so Cactus and see him go into the daughter's room, I thought the movie was going to end with him about to molest the kid, and the Mute character would come in and save the day. This generic ending would have been better than the getting an apology angle.
