I just put this in my Blockbuster queue to rent it but was this a straight to DVD movie? I can't tell.

Barely. But I see it is out on DVD now: http://www.filmcrave.com/dvd_new.php. Bout time this thing makes it for DVD releases 2011. Should not have been in theaters.
