Save the gingers! Hollywood has race swapped another iconic ginger character!

Little orphan Annie was a famous comic strip character that was in the funny pages from 1924 to 2010 and it had a wide following. I actually read the comic strip as a kid and I actually went to see the play as a child. Redheads are only one percent of the population so they are a minority that should be protected. Annie is a character of such HUGE cultural significance that I would prefer to see her played by a red-headed white girl.

This is nothing new. Hollywood has been race swapping ginger characters from the comics at an alarming rate. Save the gingers! In the list below, Ariel is 13 and Annie is 21.

Not the first time. Jamie Foxx did a version of Annie in 2014 with a black Annie.

FYI: It bombed in the box office.

Think they will ever do a black Hitler movie?

I remember the casting for that one and I hoped it would be a one-off. The other thing about that one that bugged me was the replacement of Daddy Warbucks with Will Stacks. How can there an Annie movie without Daddy Warbucks?

I don't care that she is black. I've seen a black actress play her on the stage. But.... she was wearing the same red wig that every other actress wears.

It would bother me just as much she was played by a white girl with blonde hair. Annie has red hair.

The first priority would be to have a good actress or singer in the role. I still maintain that an actor should be cast in the role who closely resembles the original person or character if the person or character is culturally or historically significant. I thought the lady who played Starfire in the Titans show did a great job and I never realized she was race-swapped since her character was not a top-tier character.

Starfire is an alien tho'. She was originally depicted with orange skin color. Whoever actor they chose it would always be a race-swap.

Zendaya is in talks to become the first black female Peter Pan. Her natural cheery demeanor and incredible emotional aloofness will make her a perfect Peter Pan.
