Do you think this would've done better if Spielberg was/Disney wasn't involved?

I think it would've been a better movie and done better financially

I seriously doubt it.

Spielberg was very involved with Crystal Skull and 95% of the fan base hated that movie. That fact alone assured that Dial of Destiny wouldn't do as well as hoped.

If Disney is to blame for a financial failure, it's only because they invested too much money in a movie younger people weren't interested in. In the (well attended, but not sold out) theater I saw Dial of Destiny in on opening weekend, it was obvious that everyone there was old enough to have seen the first 3 movies in the theater as well.

Unfortunately no. The filmwork and composition were fine. Where it failed was having an Indiana Jones in an adventure story where he's not really doing anything. His primary function was the water transition. The rest of the story tried to have what's her name be the adventures. It's the same issue with mutt in the last movie. It would have been better had they made an animated Indiana Jones movie.

It's insane to think about how many animated shows we got so far with Star Wars. But not a single one for Indiana Jones.

I’m not really sure how an animated Indiana series would play, but it is interesting that it hasn’t been attempted yet … although I have zero faith that Disney would really pull it off.

I’m more surprised that they haven’t attempted a “young” Indiana Jones concept though - A “Disney” version of the concept.

They already did a live-action show in the nineties with him first as a little kid. The he grows up and most of it is him fighting in WW1.

It was a good show and it’s cool because they actually filmed on location in like twenty, thirty countries.

From what I remember, it did fine with ratings but it was still pretty expensive. So it got canceled before George Lucas could finish up the series. I remember he wanted to introduce Abner Ravenwood and a young Belloq to set up their rivalry.
