Snakes, Insects, Rats, Ants...and....

...eels.

I suppose you have to give Indiana Jones 5 SOME points for making sure to include some sort of "icky creatures" to follow the lead of the four movies before it.

That said, the CGI underwater eels in Dial of Destiny are rather rushed and murky in their attack...they are on, then they are off. The snakes in the first(and best) Indy Jones movie were given a LOT of screen time and plot involvement.

I wonder: did the entire "Indy at sea with Antonio Banderas" nautical part of Indy 5 come about BECAUSE they decided to use underwater eels as the creatures this time?

The eel biting Lou Gossett, Jr.'s head off in The Deep (all the way back in 1978!) was more effectively done. The underwater diving scenes and Mediterranean locations reminded me of the 1967 French film The Adventurers, starring Alain Delon (?) and Jean Paul Belmondo (?). In fact, the entire film had a pre-Blockbuster Era late 60s / early 70s pacing and tone to it. Whether that's a good thing for an Indy film is debatable.

I agree the snakes were the best however the crocodiles in Temple of Doom were pretty intense as well. The rats were lame.

But in this movie Indy is afraid of them, which he wasn't in previous movies.

It seems just to show Helena is better.
