They pretty much gave up trying to market this film to Millenials, didn't they?

The film was color-corrected to appear more like an older movie - not the piss green, cobalt blue filter shit of most modern movies which was used in the early trailers. When I saw the trailer for it it at the re-release of Raiders a few months ago they had obviously color corrected the trailer figuring (correctly, I assume) that mostly older viewers would go to see the re-release. The July 4th trailers for it replaced the "Sympathy for the Devil" music with CCR's "Up Around the Bend". Neither of these songs are going to bring younger viewers in, but might appeal more to older viewers. The new film itself was marketedly less modern looking (piss filters nowhere to be seen) than it was made to look in the trailers. I wonder if they will keep the color palette as it was projected in the theater I was in or try to jack up the color for the BluRay release.

I liked the film personally, but this is going to tank at the box-office I believe.

Ya - the audience I was with were avg 60 yrs old.
All were laughing at the retro scenes tho - weird that old ppl have such a low laugh threshold.

reply

Millennials grew up with the series, it doesn't need to be specifically marketed to them if they were already fans of the originals.

reply

Some only know Skull. Not sure if that's helpful to the film or not.

reply

People in their 30s and early 40s are millennials. I think you’re referring to Gen Z.

reply

Both l reckon

reply

Someone in their 40s definitely grew up watching Indy (or should have).

I think having it premiere at Cannes was a mistake and generated more bad publicity than anticipated. So that might had turned off some viewers. Ironically, the RT rating has been steadily increasing;not that 68% is stellar but it's better than the early fifties it began with.

reply

It was perhaps both too lowbrow for Cannes and too highbrow for regular Joes.

reply

The regular Joe score over at RT right now is 89%.

reply

Let's wait and if the regular Joes under the age of 50 like it and show up to see it over weekend.

reply

Well all that's left of the weekend at this point is Sunday.

reply

It's the July 4th Independence Day weekend. So a longer than usual weekend.
