I disagree. It's not about winning praise or winning awards. It's about making the characters seem like real people, which is what good acting does. If they feel like unreal people, the message will seem forced and not very genuine.
Messages mean nothing if not properly expressed. If you want to spread God's message, you have to do it in a convincing way. If you do it verbally, but talk like a kindergartner, people won't take you seriously. If you do it in a book but write it carelessly, people won't take you seriously. If you do it in a movie but have poor acting/script, people won't take you seriously.
If you honestly want people to take something from your work in terms of a Godly message, you have to present that message properly, or it will just feel fake, and we don't want God to feel fake. So songs about God should not be afraid to be a memorable melody. Books about God should be well-written. And yes, movies about God should have a convincing script and as good acting as possible.
Who cares about awards, they should have good acting because this is for GOD, and doesn't he deserve our best? Why should movies about God be given half-hearted acting? God doesn't deserve mediocre, and neither does his message. If the message is delivered convincingly, then maybe more people will take something away from it.
