Give Kids The World

This is the scene where I lost it. I mean BAWLING. For those of you who don't know what GKTW is it's a resort for terminally ill children who have been granted a Make-A-Wish. This whole movie really hit home for me because my baby sister went through what Tyler did at age 2. It's a very heart-wrenching to see a loved one on their deathbed. Especially a baby, but she made it through. She in complete remission and we don't expect to see the cancer back again! Anyway, GKTW is a wonderful organization that is run almost completely by volunteers. I know many people on this site hate this movie for one reason or another but please remember this... The movie is a true story. The little boy really had cancer and really turned to God to help his family and friends with it. Now, it doesn't really matter what others believe because this child believed in God. I bet the movie wouldn't be a problem if the child was atheist... But he wasn't. It's ok for children to believe what they want. That's what's so beautiful about America...we're free to choose.

All of that aside, lets not forget about the other aspects of the story. This child really went through this. Many other children go through the same thing everyday. So I praise this movie for enlightening it's viewers on a tragedy that real families face.

It's almost like a slap in the face to every cancer survivor and their family to criticize a movie that is just trying to bring up an issue we all face. Just saying.

I've been to GKTW, also went to Disney World.I went my senior year in high school, for a project. I didn't want to go to because it being my senior year and didn't want to miss any school. MyEnglish teacher made me go to do my final project on the place. My brother suffers from a cerabella astrocytoma, and was granted a wish, and chose Disney, and so we got to stay at GKTW. It is an amazing place. I wish I still have the video I made for it, but it went missing soon after I finished and showed my project. One thing I didn't get to do while at GKTW I wish I was able to do, is meet the founder, since my project was on the place.

I've read a lot about Give the Kids the world and Make a Wish and other organizations. Although I've never personally known anyone to go to GTKTW, I knew what it was right when I saw the big mushroom! I didn't know this was based on a true story when I watched it, so I was really surprised to see that. I think it's cool cause maybe now more people will learn about GTKTW. It really sounds like an amazing place and I'm glad sick and disabled kids have the opportunity to experience great things there. I'm glad to hear that your sister is ok now! I would love to volunteer there if I weren't across the country!
