Kinda Bleh
Hi!
I just watched the Muppets Haunted Mansion last night. Let me say first that I LOVE the Muppets. Pepe the King Prawn is my favorite so I am always excited when they make something more Pepe centric. However, I am not sure how I feel about this movie. I don't know what it was but I just didn't think it was as good as it could have been. The jokes felt lazy and rushed. The main story was weak. It definitely felt like a Commercialized Disney promo for the ride. Not that commercialized Disney promos are a bad thing...remember when the Muppets went to Disney World? That was great. But this movie just felt cheap. A lot of green screen, the cameos were so short you didn't even know who they were until the credits rolled. The songs were bad.
and I feel so on the fence because I wanted to like it and I hate the idea of NOT liking a Muppets/Disney themed movie but something about this production just felt cheap. God, I was even confused watching the opening scene of Gonzo and Pepe in the car because I was fixated how how Gonzo's mouth was moving...it looked like the puppet wasn't working right and I have NEVER thought of the Muppets as puppets; I'm always involved in the 'magic' of the art. But when you are taken out of the world because of something like that; it's not a good thing.
Anyway, I am sure kids will love it and it could be a great addition to the Halloween movie lineup but it really isn't something I would care to watch again. there was nothing classic about it or interesting enough for me even to give it a second look.
There WERE some parts I did like. I thought John Stamos's cameo was good. I thought the Widow was fun and she probably should have been the main focus of the whole story. The ballroom scene was pretty good; I did love the call backs to the original Muppet shows with the jokes each dancer gave. And, of course, lots of Pepe. But overall, not the Muppet's best work.
