The garbage bag (spoilers)

Did he change his idea board before tearing it off to fake the cops into thinking they were going to Haiti? And was that flight leaving from the gate right next to the Caracas one?

I assumed he had a fake destination board drawn up too, but I'm not sure.

What I wondered: How was he able to dispose of the real one in such a way that they were never able to find it?

reply

I haven't seen the film in a while, but didn't he burn it? Logic would tell me the best way to get rid of something like that would be to burn it anyway. It was only paper, so perishable and completely destroyable.

Maybe he used a shredder?

reply

he tore them up by hand and ripped them from the wall.

and he does ptu one bag in the trash of his neighbour and the rest later on in another dumpster.

reply

Yes, you are right. No shredder, otherwise we would have seen him shredding. But he must have put the wrong clues in his own dumpster to confuse the police.
I had to chuckle when the police threw the ripped apart pieces of paper & photos on the big table and put them together which took them a long time :).
Have to watch it again. Such a suspenseful film!

Yes -- he plants the "fake destination bag" in the next-door neighbor's garbage can (it's even slightly sticking out of the can). I thought this was really clever because I didn't get why he'd been so "careless" about the first bag, then understood and enjoyed his smarts. (The character's intelligence combined with his being this regular guy really made the movie for me.)

The other (real) bags he takes across town and tosses in a huge inner-city dumpster -- it's very unlikely they'd ever be found. It also looked like he'd done a fast homemade shred job on the real info too.

As far as the gate, it looked to me like he deliberately picked a false destination that would also fly out of a nearby gate (easy to do in certain airports).
