Kid's version of Old School

I liked Monsters U, but I thought it would have been cool if they made it into a frat movie instead of showing the education process of the monsters.

Given that fraternities are in place at colleges, and the primary purpose of a college IS to educate, it's kinda hard to separate the two. Even Animal House had professors and classrooms. MU showed both the educational aspect of college life AND the Greek/frat/sorority scene, so it was not just about the "education process of the monsters". College life is both about getting and education and having fun and forging new bonds, although Mike was only interested in the former.

What I meant was I would have liked to see more partying and other types of things that would have happened in a movie like Old School, even though this is a kid's movie.

Well, it's not so much a "kids' movie" as an "all ages movie"; there were lots of references that would have gone right over the heads of little kids, for instance Sheri Squibbles and her "tunes", which the little kids did NOT get at all, or the beer pong reference. But, keep in mind that the focus of the movie was Mike. Mike didn't do the party thing, remember? Too busy studying to become the greatest Scarer the world has ever known. Didn't even want to go to one party with the ONE person on campus who actually thought Mike was pretty cool and admirable and all. The whole thing is basically Mike's POV, so anything that interfered with his plan was seen as a negative. Also, you're not going to hold an all-ages audience too well if the movie is about nothing but drinking and debauchery, nor are you going to have much of an actual PLOT, period. Pixar is known for character development, and plot. Take those two factors away, and you don't have much of a movie. It might entertain those who aren't into things like plot and character development, who don't need any emotions getting in the way of their laughs, but it's not going to cut it as a Pixar movie.

I understand what you're saying. I know that Monsters University is not exclusively for kids (I am a teenager and I watched it), but it is a movie that kids can watch (Old School is not). Honestly, I don't remember everything about Monsters University because I saw it once in theaters and haven't seen it since. I'm just giving a general idea I had about what I would have liked to see. It was still a good movie, though.

If you only saw it once, you missed a LOT! This is one of those movies where there's so much going on, so many little nuances, that you have to see it multiple times to take it all in.

You're right. There are many movies thy you have to see multiple times in order to pick up on the details. I said that I still did like the movie. I'm just saying it would have been interesting if they had gone in a different direction. It was still a good movie, especially if you are a Monsters, Inc. fan.

you are a teenager, that explains it. This movie was more like Revenge of the Nerds than Old School. Old School is all you know but this was almost like a remake of the Nerds movie for kids in the plot.

even one of the monsters from the evil Fraternity was a copy of Ogre from that movie. If you liked Old School and you wanted to see more of the partying and the craziness you should check out revenge. it is a pretty good movie. Just make sure your mom is okay with you watching that
