The "prequel" really surprised everyone by performing so sell outside of the US, in spite of concerns by Pixar and others that it would "flop" overseas, due to the theme of American fraternity culture, something which is largely unique to the US, but it really seemed to resonate well with markets outside the US, moreso than it did domestically.

the sequel only made money because it rode on the tails of the original and the Pixar name. And there was nothing in the theaters to counter it. Mediocre crap sadly
