Does this movie have anything to do with FRANK the movie?

The second I saw the FRANK trailer, I immediately remembered the character with the pupped head that kept popping up in this movie, and assumed it must have been another Irvine welsh creation. But it's not.

McAvoy's character, Bruce Robertson imitates Frank Sidebottom's voice when making lewd phone calls to Shirley Henderson's character.

It is in the book too but was published in 1998, so no tie-in intended with the other movie.
