Do the kids get the ironic humor?

And the clever word play in some of the scenes? It seems like something that they won't be able to catch as oppose to cheap gags that you tend to see more in other kid films (even Kung Fu Panda).

I didn't really catch any ironic humour...but the word play is something I hope kids latch on to and love!

I think it was added for the older audiences. The kids got the simple plot and the songs. The adults got the meta humor. That's one of the reasons the film was so acclaimed because it catered equally to adults unlike several kids movies these days.

I'm sure your average 5-year-old won't catch some of the stuff, but that's what makes it so great: there's stuff you as an adult can enjoy, and they'll catch onto in later years.

"Thanks, guys." "So long, partner."

I didn't even see this is as a kid's movie but more of a family film, for all ages (like most Disney films).
