Something That Caught Me Off-Guard

During the Backson song, one of the lines is something like "He chips your teeth" and it was a shot of either Roo or Piglet getting a tooth broken with a chisel and mallet. Such a violent shot kinda caught me off-guard made me cringe. Anyone else feel the same?

Eeep! I do remember that! Also, I thought the "spill your tea" moment was kind of gruesome. Looked like it landed right in Rabbit's lap. Regardless, the whole song is suppose to have a scary feel to it, which is something you rarely see in Pooh movies. A little creepy, but nothing that would give you nightmares.

Well, yeah, I agree. But still... it was just so unexpected.

I think the creators were shooting for a fresh & 'modern' adaptation of the classic stories. Lots of things caught me off guard too, but the problem I had with this film is similar to the problem I have with most of the newly animated Disney films that have 'graced' the silver screen over the last few years. Uncreative and sloppy lyrics accompanied by bland mediocre melodies. In my opinion, sometimes the lyrics, melodies & themes of the songs border on the verge of copyright infringement.

There's something iconic about the lyrics and melodies of the older Disney films, the true ''Disney Classics''. Films like Alice, Cinderella & other such timeless gems are iconic because the melodies & lyrics are able to withstand the test of time. They are brilliant. Every line is memorable, whereas the newer films lack a certain genius and for lack of a better word heart. Repeating "honey. honey. honey. honey", thirteen times does not a good song make. Adjectives like good, bad, near & far are way to cliche' to be used at this period in mainstream media. Too fluffy without the substance. An unimpeachable lyric with an iconic melody is scarcely found in Disney's newly animated films. They've lost something. It's all Lady Gaga-esq. Like they put all the ideas in all of the old films into a blender, mixed 'em all together & then spewed them out in haphazard regurgitation of a 'box office' idea. Hopefully things will get better.

"Such a violent shot kinda caught me off-guard made me cringe."

I felt that way during the It's Gonna Be Great song when Eeyore crashed into the fence so hard that it broke. :/

Are you all serious? My girls are 5 and 2 and they didn't find anything scary about this movie. Did you all grow up with the classic Disney cartoons from the 40's and 50's? Ugh, I guess those are considered too violent for today's kids. There were all kinds of crashing type of scenes that in real life would do harm, but adds slap stick humor to cartoons. I was raised on those, and so I grew up with a lot worse than a chalk drawing having his tooth chipped, tea falling into someone's lap, and a character crashing into a fence.

"The hideousness of that foot will haunt my dreams forever."

I didn't find it scary either, in fact the Backson song was my favorite part. Yes I grew up with 40's and 50's Disney and I agree there were much scarier and more violent things to be seen (those were the good ol' days). I was just relating to the OP on the feeling of being caught off guard. From my memories of watching other Winnie the Pooh movies and shows as a kid I felt a difference in storytelling in the latest entry and that's why some of the humor (like crashing into a fence) stood out a little more and was off putting to me.

It's the character being tortured basically. Someone chipping someone else's tooth with a hammer and mallet is something you'd see in Saw.

Let alone putting holes in clothing. That's definitely going to give kids ideas...

...let alone jumping on beds...

...tampering with clocks in the house...

...tracking mud into the house...

...shoving people into walls...

...breaking writing utensils...

...adding more stress to Moms...

I found the treatment of Piglet in the film over all disturbing LOL. Send the pig? I think every one minus Pooh and maybe Rabbit hate him.

2012, bring it on!
