Why engineers want to wipeout humans?

The virus interacts different depending on who it is exposed to, when it comes into contact with humans, the result is detrimental to the whole universe, that even the creators of humans cannot contend with. Thus to protect themselves, kill the human species.

I was thinking Ridley was going to explain that but of course he didnt.

The reason I have heard most often is the Engineers were sending some of their own to monitor the progress on Earth. One of them was crucified and that's why the dates on the attack from the other planet was set to about 2,000 years ago. Before they were overrun by their own weapon. Making the implication that Jesus was one of these surveyors.

My theory is it was because of what David said to him, which as you can imagine, probably went along the lines of 'we are going to wipe you out' and the Engineer therefore viewed them as a failed experiment. He only becomes violent after David speaks to him and it seemed to me that he was viewing the group with awe or wonder at first.

They didn't engineer anything.... They look dumb. They just found the Virus and went looking for inhabitable planets to take over.

Probably the explanation for that was even more idiotic than the movie, so they dumped it in favor or leaving it up to fans to make something up. Amazing effects, one of the worst science fiction movie plots/stories ever.
