Season wasn't bad, but it was more backstory developing with the characters than actually advancing the story.

Sounds like season 2. I think the creators only had enough ideas for one season, and even then the first season was quite thin on plot and mostly driven by chaotic energy and pace. I don't feel that there's enough at stake here. If these fairly obnoxious people don't create a successful restaurant... so what?

agreed. each individual episode was good, but overall progression of the storyline was non-existent. Seemed more like a documentary about fine dining.

It was a standstill season. Too much wasted time on the Faks.
