With the death of Jerry Van Dyke, who occasionally appeared as Frankie's father, Tag, do you think they'll write Tag's death into the series?
I seriously doubt it... In the first place, this series seldom deals with serious issues. Secondly, these characters seem to live in a dimension where nothing ever changes.
To wit, the kids' personalities are the same as they were 10 years ago. The characters show no growth.
I don't know if they'll write in the death of Tag or not.
Both Aunt Ginny and Aunt Edie died (the actress who played Ginny passed in real life), and they had sweet episodes covering both. Frankie's mom had a serious health issue. So, they do handle serious issues, but in a heartwarming way.
I also disagree that nothing ever changes. There have been different jobs, schools, friends, romances, etc.
But why should the personalities change? They're maturing, but that doesn't make them into different people.

Yes, Axl is still obnoxious because that's what the character is. He has, however, shown a lot of growth. He's learned about humility, thinking of others, realizing life's not an easy ride, etc. If he were to suddenly become a normal man, it would be out of character and boring.
The show is about the Heck family, so, yes, it will be about family. But when the kids were at college, they had plenty of scenes/episodes that didn't take place at home. Axl at his place, Sue at hers, Axl in the Winnebago, etc.
This show isn't meant to be hyper-realistic. It's just supposed to be entertaining. It's certainly not perfect, but if it didn't entertain you, you should have found something else to do.

The two words have entirely different meanings, and it would behoove you to learn them so that you don't continue sounding stupid.
