Dylan had long worn out his welcome by season 7

He was funny in the first few seasons, but after season 4 he really wasn't needed anymore.

reply

Yes, I don't think too many here would disagree with that. He definitely doesn't fit into the mix any longer.

Glad I'm not alone on that. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if he does appear this season.

He is far funnier than Andy and more appealing too. Never quite got Claire's "hate" for him given he has never been mean to Haley or mistreated her, always worked and never sponged off her, is never rude to her family, etc. Granted he's a borderline idiot but I suspect his IQ may be a little higher than Haley's herself.

reply

I personally think Andy's more appealing. He's goofy, but isn't a total idiot at the same time. In the early seasons, Dylan and Haley were probably on the same wavelength, but from season 5 onwards, I think she outgrew him. As for Claire's dislike of Dylan, you do make a good point, but she just thought Haley could do a lot better.

reply

I hope they don't use Dylan this season . Haley has outgrown him to the point it's painfully obvious.

reply

My thoughts exactly.

reply

Who knows. Season 8 Haley may have outgrown Season 3/4 Dylan, but who knows what growing Dylan might have done in 4 or so years...

I'm not trying to be mean but maybe the fact that he has come out as gay could make it harder for him to play a straight guy. Or how about this, he does come back but not as a love interest for Haley but maybe now he has eyes for someone else in the fam, like Luke, Manny, or the best...Phil!

reply

We already have a straight guy playing a gay gay so I really don't see the problem with a gay guy playing a straight one. It's been done once or twice before.

I wasn't aware the actor was gay, but what does it have to do with the way he portrays a character? Suddenly he wouldn't be able to act anymore? His character should become gay? No offense, but what a stupid comment!

reply

And like I said; it's not like gays have played straight characters before.

They ran out of jokes for him after awhile. In the early seasons he was a riot and a joy to watch.

It's a good comedy character. If they can think up something worthwhile for him to do, I don't really care how they opt to write him in.

People seem opposed to the idea of him being Haley's boyfriend. Which, he doesn't have to be.
