Had to mute the TV during all of Glorias scenes.

She's completely annoying this season, this episode she was unbearable.

reply

I completely agree. They are following suit with last season by taking them out of character.

reply

She's no longer a character and has reverted back to a charicature.

I'm not sure if it's intentional or the writers believe it's cute, but mostly it's just brutal.

Fake fans who think the show sucks now are the same fake fans hating on this episode. People say the first few seasons were good and I distinctly remember liking this show because off he jokes regarding Gloria's accent. So here we have an episodes hat harkens back to the good old days an people are crapping on it.

I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard at the speech part. Yes it was cringingly hard to hear but that's why it was funny. It makes everyone appreciate the flaws in her accent much more. And when the speech therapist told Joe to say the same words while smiling it was genius, but that's speech therapy for ya

It was hardly "back to the good old days", Gloria's accent has been a running gag since Season 1. Sure, this episode focused deeper into the storyline, but it was hardly original material. It was kinda cartoonish at parts, and the worrying this is I am not talking about Joe's parts.

That being said, these last two episodes have been quite funny, especially Phil and Haley's scenes.

I couldn't agree more. These posters who get annoyed by everything, why do they even bother to watch sitcoms?

reply

^^This. It seems like the same people have been posting the same "this show has gone downhill" threads since season 2.

The latest episode was hilarious and Gloria's speech therapy was the best part.

WE GOT MOVIE SIIIIIGN!

I always love Gloria's different attempted accents.

I've actually been presently surprised by the last two episodes, and even turned to my daughter at the end of last week and said 'OMG the show must have new writers because this is the first time I've laughed from beginning to end and not wished I'd spent 30 minutes doing something else!'.

There's so much material left in this show that they never explore, but choose to revert back to the same tired gags from 7 seasons ago. Like this episode, Gloria's been in this country for over a decade, at least. Yes, Sofia has a rather strong accent. But in recent interviews, her accent is softening significantly, so why turn Gloria into a stereotype that is too obtuse to succumb to the language she's using predominantly?
In the first few seasons, there were things that were hysterical- like her trying to think of what a helicopter is called, describing the sound it makes. Or alligators boxing (or was it crocodiles?) and putting the gloves on their tiny hands, that was funny stuff. But now she's surrounded by English speaking people, so it would be natural for her accent to soften and she'd certainly have a better grasp on the vernacular aspects.

All I'm saying (and I think the other commenter as well) is that it was a drag on an otherwise solid episode. Give her some substantial story lines instead of this charicature that does nothing but spend money and hover over her children.

I completely disagree. Gloria has been a staple of this show since the very beginning. If you don't like it, watch something else.
