2014 film vs. 1979 miniseries -- which is better?

I've seen both and, IMO, the story works better in the miniseries format. The movie isn't bad, but rushes its way through the familiar calm-before-the-storm /disillusionment themes which have been done in so many other films on the same theme; the miniseries looks more deeply into Vera Brittain's personal experiences
and attitudes and how they developed over a longer period of time in her life, which does more justice to her memoirs.

They are equally good (8 out of 10 on my scale). I've seen both versions twice.

The mini-series reminded me of a school comedy in the beginning. Mainly because Cheryl Cambell is not credible in the role as a teenager. When Vera Brittain becomes a nurse Cheryl Cambell is at her best and the story is better and much more trustworthy than the movie.

The movie displays more feelings and enters your heart with a great punch. Alicia Vikander is fantastic in showing emotions and a lot of the movie shows close-ups of her face. I belive she is actually to pretty to the role, but her acting makes the movie worth seeing again and again.

In my opinion the movie is better at the beginning and the mini-series is the best at the ending. For younger people I would recomment the movie because the mini-series is to old-fashioned today. But for people really interested in the story the mini-series is a must-see.
