Boring Arthouse Version of Species

Props to Jonathan Glazer for getting Scarlett Johannson to take her clothes off for the movie. It would be unwatchable otherwise

It is a movie-length music video without the music (well it has that repetitive alien motif). I get why Scarlett agreed to star in this. This type of experimental crap always raises a good looking actor's art house cred. Same as Gosling with Drive or Monica Bellucci with Irreversible. It is a stepping stone for ambitious actors chasing awards

But the movie is still unwatchable unless you're specifically viewing it to see Scarlett's tits and ass

Absolutely right

Thanks for saving me the trouble. Not a fan of ScarJo at ALL, so it'd have to be a lot of fun for me to watch it. Aaannnd it sounds like it's not.

It benefits greatly from a good sound system. I watched it with studio quality headphones, and the soundscape is very immersive, very detailed. It helped to put me in her position of quiet observation, watching and listening closely to everything around her. Overall the movie was decent, not amazing.

Pearls before swines, dude.

reply

Yes, exactly. The movie is pearls, and you are the swine.

reply

Overall the movie was decent, not amazing, for me too. Because I got to see her bare tits and ass. So it doesn't sound like a good sound system really improves the experience that much

If you have not read the book, you cannot understand the movie. If you have read the book you will have a better understanding of the movie; but you will find yourself asking "what the hell did I just read"?

I think of Species as the dumb jock version of Under the Skin.

This film is creepy, eerie, unsettling, strangely uplifting at times, and explores the drama of becoming something you weren't, something you might not understand, and learning to be okay with it. It's about what it means to be human. It's about making connections. It's about the other and the unknown.

It's really great. Yeah, sure, there's nudity. Big deal. Scarlett was sexier in Match Point. Here she's naked, yeah, but it's about exploration, discovery, humanity, birth, and other things - it's not really a sexy scene in my opinion.

Yeah This movie was dogshit
