Which was better: 'The Event' or 'FlashForward'?

In your opinion, which do you believe would have been the better replacement for "Lost", which both of these shows attempted to be but ultimately couldn't accomplish in ratings?

Personally for me, I preferred "FlashForward". I cared about nearly every single character in this show, from Mark Benford to Bryce Varley. Although the first half was focused entirely on the mystery and left the characters feeling flat, the second half changed all of that and I enjoyed those episodes immensely. I wish ABC had decided to renew this instead of "V" (which coincidentally was cancelled just recently after IMO an awful second season). I felt that the writers had only scraped the surface on the many ideas that could have been gained from a second season, but sadly the Nielson ratings were way too low for ABC to even consider renewal. I'm at least happy that ABC released "The Complete Series" to DVD for the die-hard fans, like myself.

As for "The Event", it was one of the most boring and unbelievable shows starting out, and only started to get interesting in the last few episodes (including its finale). There were so many times when I couldn't believe the situations that characters managed to get out of (How was Sean able to break into FBI headquarters so easily? Where did that deus ex machina RV come from? What was with the kids that were aged? etc.). In addition, the characters were cardboard flat copies of characters from other better shows (I could copy and paste characters from "24", "FlashForward", and "Lost" that this show failed to emulate but it would take way too much time)and the story was all over the place (with flashbacks that ultimately the show gave up on because they added nearly nothing to the story). The idea of aliens among us had already been done so many times, I was really hoping that this would bring something fresh to the genre, but sadly I was disappointed.

Your thoughts?

FlashForward was far from perfect, but it was WAY better than The Event.

J.P. Monroe: Jesus Christ!
Pinhead: Not quite.

I'm sorry but ignorant statements like this one are just annoying as hell.

The undeniable truth is that if it weren't for Lost shows like Flashforward, V and The Event wouldn't even exist. Because no matter what you think about Lost it was without a trace of doubt a commercial and financial success and was unique in that it proved to the major networks that heavily serialised sci-fi and mystery shows can sustain a huge viewership over multiple years. All these shows were produced because networks were looking for the NEXT LOST. So, no Lost = no Flashforward or The Event. Period. So to claim that these shows were cancelled because people are afraid of "wasting their time again" like with Lost is ridiculous because again, without Lost THEY WOULDN'T EVEN EXIST. I think it's a disgrace that people like you disrespect what Lost achieved for this genre just because you didn't like the ending.

Flashforward and The Event quite simply failed because they were badly written shows for the most part and lacked the great characters that Lost had (both is especially true for The Event which was ridiculously bad at times). And Lost DID go somewhere. Just because you didn't like how it all played out (which is perfectly fine since everyone is entitled to their opinion) doesn't mean the show went nowhere. In fact, the majority of fans and critics like the way Lost ended. You can't please everyone, I guess.

I couldn't have said it better myself, Glaezn. That person should be glad that a show like "Lost" became such a huge success. It's a wonder these days if a show of its genre is even able to make it past a first season (let alone sustain the public's interest). I'm in the camp that enjoyed the way that "Lost" turned out, and even though the shows that were inspired by it failed commercially I liked that ABC and NBC at least allowed them to at least play out (even if it was for only a single season). To think that he/she believes that shows of this genre can't sustain a person's interest is laughable really. Without shows like "Lost", the world would be stuck in a reality TV and crime/medical drama duldrom...

Am way behind on THE Event as I have only seen about 6.
Its an OK show but do like FlashForward much more.

You have to keep an eye on The Event because if you miss a bit it might not make sense.
