Which was better: 'The Event' or 'FlashForward'?
In your opinion, which do you believe would have been the better replacement for "Lost", which both of these shows attempted to be but ultimately couldn't accomplish in ratings?
Personally for me, I preferred "FlashForward". I cared about nearly every single character in this show, from Mark Benford to Bryce Varley. Although the first half was focused entirely on the mystery and left the characters feeling flat, the second half changed all of that and I enjoyed those episodes immensely. I wish ABC had decided to renew this instead of "V" (which coincidentally was cancelled just recently after IMO an awful second season). I felt that the writers had only scraped the surface on the many ideas that could have been gained from a second season, but sadly the Nielson ratings were way too low for ABC to even consider renewal. I'm at least happy that ABC released "The Complete Series" to DVD for the die-hard fans, like myself.
As for "The Event", it was one of the most boring and unbelievable shows starting out, and only started to get interesting in the last few episodes (including its finale). There were so many times when I couldn't believe the situations that characters managed to get out of (How was Sean able to break into FBI headquarters so easily? Where did that deus ex machina RV come from? What was with the kids that were aged? etc.). In addition, the characters were cardboard flat copies of characters from other better shows (I could copy and paste characters from "24", "FlashForward", and "Lost" that this show failed to emulate but it would take way too much time)and the story was all over the place (with flashbacks that ultimately the show gave up on because they added nearly nothing to the story). The idea of aliens among us had already been done so many times, I was really hoping that this would bring something fresh to the genre, but sadly I was disappointed.
