Plot comparision

I just finished rewatching the series and have started to read the novel. What I was wondering, is, how close does the TV version follow the novel's plot. Are the two close enough in content that extrapolations can be made to answer some of the loose ends of the TV show ?

So far the only comparison I can make is the character of Lloyd.

I've only read part of the novel but from what I've read and summaries I've seen they're nothing alike. The novel follows Lloyd Simcoe who is a scientist at CERN when the blackout happens. The general premise is the same of a global blackout which causes people to flash forward although in the novel it's IIRC 20 years into the future. The only other character from the show who is kind of in the book is Dimitri. In the novel he's a Greek scientist working with Lloyd and like in the tv show he doesn't have a vision and decides to investigate his own death (one bit I remember is that he goes and talks to a kid who, in the future, will be the homicide cop investigating his murder)

Well, having finished the novel a few weeks ago, I can honestly say, unforunately, I preferred the tv series.

The problem with the novel, IMO, is that there was no conflict, no "villian". To me, it was more of a study in how people would (theoretically) deal with such an event, and how such an event could work for or against people in general. From that perspective, it was similar, but, I really liked the mystery and twists that the tv series offered. It's too bad that it was axed after such a short run.
