I wanted to start watching this series but found out that it was cancelled. Does this mean that the series did not have closure or certain things were not solved etc?

yes you are correct. The season ends with a cliff hanger. Many say the last episode created as many questions as it provide answers. But personally, I'm glad I watched it anyway. At least the answers are somewhat satisfying, if you can leave the questions "alone". :D
