At first, thought maybe he had a flash of insight, that the woman ratted him out. But later, talking to Pavel, he says she was just a friend & didn’t have anything to do with “it”. Was it to eliminate a witness.
shareYes, maybe, or it could be that he didn't determine she had nothing to do with it until after the fact. But he didn't know at the time and thought she may have set him up. And it's meant to show how ruthless he is, so the movie can ask the question about it being possible for him to change, and also whether or not one can "escape history", as the Priest says to him.
