What was that all about. Im probably missing the obvious but why was that a blackmail plot.

I think Jordana's main purpose was merely to get back at her exboyfriend and she wanted Oliver to right something about it in the diary because if anyone found it, it would be genuine. She did feel a little bad when he really started to get beat up, but when Oliver "defended her honor" and refused to call her a slut, she actually started to like him.

The movie glosses over it, but in the book Jordana gets her hands on the pamphlet that Oliver wrote to help Zoe with bullying. Jordana then threatens to spread it around school to embarrass Oliver if he doesn't go along with the pictures/diary entry.
